63 Falcons - Throttle Linkage Diagrams or Photos?

Howdy all.

Can someone point me in the right direction, or post a few photos of what the throttle linkage should look like on a stock 63 Falcon with a 144/170 ?

Someone converted my 63 to a cable / spring return style throttle, with a 302 V8 - and it isn't really going to work with the 170 I have in there now.

I want to see how the stock linkage would connect - especially at the carb, and then decide which way will be easier to go - convert it all back to stock, or try to make the cable style work.

Thanks!

here they are...they're from a 63 convertible I picked up...it's been sitting in a barn for 18 years. i'm going to sell it to finance the mustang 8)

Thanks!

So the carb throttle bell crank is on the passenger side of the crank eh?

Mine is on the firewall side. Does that mean I need to get a different carb to use the stock accelerator linkage?

Nope, what you're not seeing is that the throttle rod (from the firewall) connects to a bellcrank, which has a link (just visible behind the bellcrank) that goes up and connects to the carb throttle.

edit: the bellcrank fits onto a stud that screws into the side of the carb adapter plate just below the carb.

What you don't see is there is a Z rod that comes from the Gas pedal thro the fire wall, then goes across the fire wall to the passanger side, then there is a rod that conects it to the bell crank at the carb.

Zim:

Are you running an automatic or a stick? The gas pedal arm setup is different for each.

If you have an automatic, the stock setup had two arms. One bolted to the top of the bellhousing and connected to the other arm which bolted to the firewall. They were connected by a short rod. The kickdown then bolted to the arm. You can always use a Lokar cable for the kickdown as an option.

If you have a stick, the linkage was relatively simple and looks as posted in the pictures posted. You can also obtain a cable linkage support arm from a Maverick and similar which bolts to opposite sides of the valve cover. The cable housing is affixed to the support and the cable attaches to the carb.

Note that the V8 linkage setup was completely different but is used when attaching various 2 barrels carbs which have the throttle linkage in different positions.

I am trying to get this working with a C4 Automatic.

My 63 Ranchero was originally a stick, but all of the original accelerator stuff was removed and replaced with a cable style throttle, which isnt long enough to reach the bellcrank on the carb.

This is because the stuff I have was all used on a V8 . The V8 is now long gone, and the 170 has been put back in. But I am still stuck with the V8 throttle stuff right now.

I need to figure out what to get, where to get it, and how it all works - and yes - I will need to get the kickdown working too.

I now see the bellcrank on the pics posted above. So - I guess I just need to find an automatic accelerator linkage set that will work on a 63 Falcon with a C4.

What other vehicles would have stuff that will work here? Mustang?

Maybe the Maverick cable throttle would be easier at this point... I need to look into that too.

Thanks!
