'65 comet 2v carb question

Just want to know something about the carburetors they used on the '1965 Mercury Comet Caliente...I had a 289 in mine back in 1971 with the 2v carb. That thing sounded awesome and I want that for my 200 inline six. Everyone that rode in that thing would ask what in the world I had under that hood and when I opened it they would say what kind of carburetor do you have on that thing...I never really paid much attention to all that back then, but now I want to know. I remember the sound though and my Dads '65 LTD with the big v8 and quad in it didn't sound as cool as mine.

What do you need to know?

If it's still at my old residence and not been towed away, I get to go pick up my '65 Comet later tonight. It has the original 289/auto with the 2V carb... even has the original carb tag on it.

Doesn't run great (well, it does, but it could use some TLC), and really isn't terribly pretty, so I hope I can make it 30 miles one way on the freeway. At night. Unregistered. In the cold. Hopefully, not in the rain.

Do you need pictures? You didn't say what it is you want to know, ya know? 8)

Hey, Michael

Any information you could give me, Holley, Carter, Autolite, model number, ID Number, wheter it was a progressive like the Holley/Weber, just anything that would identify it for me.

It may have been the 2300 I saw on the tocmp site where they used the 2300 on the Hi-Performance 289's from 65 up, but usually on Hi-Option stuff apparently. Pictures are always a great + if you can get 'em.

Thanks

I dont see where is says what kind of carb it is :?

anyway motorcraft its the same as an autolite

Went to get the car yesterday - got it started after a bit of cranking and it was just getting a normal idle, when it died. Tried again, but no cranking. No sound whatsoever. Still had power from the battery, but the starter wasn't budging.

Of course, it's dark by then, and I brought no tools or even a flashlight. Didn't expect to run into problems, really. So, I left it there. Taking a toolbox and remote starter thingie later or tomorrow (in the daylight).

Anyway, no pictures yet. But, it's a Motorcraft 2100 2V. FoMoCo tag ID (since I pulled it off ages ago to do some research) is: C5ZF-B

Once I get it home, and since it's absolutely original, I'll take some pictures from all angles for our reference (linkage, etc.).

Yes, you are right...I looked up that C5ZF-B and it does appear to be a 2100. That must be the carburetor. Summits is only $146.99. Very affordable and I think I will get one just to try it later. Thanks for the help Michael and 64falcon200.

Got the Comet home, finally. In the dark and the rain... although, I ran out of gas almost here. Gauge said about a quarter tank left, and got about 20-25 miles away from the old place when it sputtered and died. On a dark and lonely road.

Got some go juice into it and drove the rest of the way home. Finally took some pictures of the linkage yesterday, in case anyone needs a reference for the Motorcraft 2100 carb.

I won't be taking the car apart for another few weeks - just bought a new (this old) house, and I have some work to do - so if anyone needs more details or pictures or parts, let me know.

:D Now that surely do look like the carb that was on the 74 F100 that I had.Came with a 360 that I changed to a totally rebuilt(by me)302 that I reused the carb on.Very simple unit.
