66 200 Mods/Updates

Hello all, I'm new to this forum but wanted to say that from all of what I've read so far it seems to be one of the best.

But what I'm really interested in is some recommendations of things that I can do to update the car for better performance and driving fun.

I have been looking into the Pertronix Ignitor II with new coil, and wanted to know who has used this before and what kind of results you might have gotten with it. If that one wasn't the best then what one would you guys recommend.

Some of the other things I have been considering might be a bit farther out, but I wanted some input anyway. I was looking into a 250 head with intake and wasn't sure if would bolt directly onto the stock 200 block or not.

The final thing was an upgrade to a 2V carb. What would you guys recommend?

:thanks: :D

If you were thinking of a head swap and wanted to do a 2V Look for a 78' and later head and set it up for a direct mount. This would involve machinig the top area flat enough to bolt and expoxy etc. a 2v mount such as a 1/2" spacer and also opening the hole on the intake to match the ID of the spacer.Check the Classic Inlines site (Dyno Sect.) on results with this done to a customers car.

Also for the ignition the duraspark & msd6 would be better then the pertronix, The top of the ladder would be the DUI distributor.

PETRONIX, the #1 mod I've ever done in the last 6 years I've had my '63. 20 minutes, $100 and your eyes will pop when you hit the key, no lie.

Thx for the input everybody, one of my big concerns right now is money, but I just wanted to get ideas for what i could hopefully do in the future.

I ran Pertronic's on all my old VW's and they did very well. Only complaint I had was if you left the ignition key on by mistake it would fry the dizzy module. For all my Ford projects, I find the Duraspark hard to beat due to price and availability of parts. Easy to recurve to your needs.

On the ignition stuff I know the Pertronix is the cheapest and easiest, then the DSII and then the DUI on top. But where does the MSD fit in? Is it supposed to be used in conjunction with something else or what?

Any info would be great! :D

Some use the Msd6 as the ignition box instead of the factory box. MSD sells a wire section that runs from the box to the distributor pretty easy set up.

MSD is a great set-up, but if bang for your buck is what your after listen to these guys. Pet II or dura spark is the way to go. I went all the way with the DUI and I am very happy with it at about $500 all done the msd is close to the same. As far as heads go the 77 or 78 head is the way to go. Get yourself a falcon 6 book it will help on head selection an other mods. I use a two bbl on an adapter and have had good results, but I want to direct mount it as soon as I can( read the dyno results). Good luck and have fun.
