i believe i have a pproblem with my alternator but i cant properly diagnose it. i start my car and it runs fine however if i turn it off then attempt to restart it, the engine will spin a few times, if im lucky it will catch, but if it doesnt, which is most of the time, then it spins till it doesnt spin anymore. the starter is turning, and the batt is okay...i dont know besides testing the alternator if that is the problem...any suggestions?
Thanks
MM

If the starter spins you either have teeth missing from the ring gear or the solenoid is not pulling the gear out to engage the ring gear. Id start by yankin the starter and having a look at it and the ring gear.

This happened to me as well. No teeth were missing. I changed the new starter to an old non-autozone unit and now it engages every time. I couldn't tell the difference between the two starters, but the results were dramatically different.
