67 mustang 200 exhaust

Im new to this site. I am looking at for opinions as to what exhaust to use on my 200. I have a header and port divider from cjpony, i believe. I want to get either the Impostor or the Arvinode from classicinlines (http://www.classicinlines.com/categories.asp?cat=143). I want the one with the most horsepower gains. The guy from the site said that the Arvinode has more power but is really loud. Has anybody used this or know if it is obnoxiously loud? I don't want it to sound like a souped up Jetta or something. Im hoping that one of these kits will hook up to my header with little problem? Any thoughts will be much appreciated.

Thanks

exhaust is tricky, headers help the flow of exhaust, little too much, you still need back presure in the system, so with headers it's best to go to single exhaust right after the header, then back out to dual at the rear. with a free flowing exhaust it's meant to run at WOT all the time, my dual 2inch exhaust setup is too much, and I would gain a few ponies by restricting it down to a single 2.25inch or even a single 2inch. there are others that will say differently, like have a dual all the way to the muffler and "Y" into the muffler, then dual out the rear, that too is a great setup, as it will create back presure,

Eventually I will go dual 1.5 inch exhaust, the smaller diameter will restrict just enough and keep it free flowing while keeping it quiet, the larger the pipe the louder it is. then into some glass pacs then dual 14 or 18inch magnaflow's, these will really quiet the rest but have a great idle sound. currently running 14inch manaflows and I think they could work, so i'll see if they can, if not, then go 18inch. if I'm not satisfied on the noise, then I'll add 10inch resonators at the rear, the end goal is a great idle sound with nothing while accelerating or cruising. my current LOUD exhaust really is too much.

stainless steel is great, but the cheaper exhaust is still pretty good.

I already have a dual outlet header with 2.5 inch outlets. Do you suggest going to smaller pipes? I also want some input on the arvinode or impostor kits which is what ill probably get.

Thanks

Sadly, i don't think there is a silver bullet for exhaust, what you need going out is a factor of what you have going in. If you haven't worked on your porting and are running stock carb and cam, big duals won't (imo) help you much. Run a bigger cam and a 2bbl and some intake smoothing/porting and duals is what you want.

I went dual 2" exhaust in mine (stock) and it did nothing for me. But i have a bigger cam, a box of 5200's and a larger flat top log head waiting for time to intigrate and make the duals worth it.

I hope.

I know that dual on a stock will have a noticeable horsepower gain as seen on my friends engine. But I want to see if anybody has put an arvinode or impostor kit on there car.

Thanks

I run CI headers and transition to a single outlet Imposter system on my 63 drop top falcon (68 200). It has a nice rumble and will only get rather loud if I get on it hard with the RPMs up. In normal driving, it sounds good. I agree on keeping pipe size in check to help with lower end torque unless the engine is being built for racing.

the inline website says to have 1.75 inch pipes for a dual outlet with less HP. Does this sound right? My header is 2.5 so do i just get something to convert it to 1.75?

thanks

learn all the science, do what you can manage ...

I kept it simple on two dual out header exhaust cars and very satisfied. Typical available pipe and pre-bent connections are most common 2" , 2" SS band clamps allow easy R&R , added reasonable sounding (and priced) Smithy' silencers exiting ahead of rear wheels. ...

... flex pipes are a good idea, especially if six power is used 8)

.. preferred stock muffler sound (X2) for the daily driver '63 Wagon:
