69-70 Mustang 250 Motor Mounts

New Lime 69

I have a 69 Mustang Coupe with a 250 in desperate need of motor mounts. I can't seem to find a replacement set for the vehicle. This strikes me as amazing!? There has to be a similar set from another vehicle or an independent supplier who makes them, somewhere.

Somebody told me that the 1970 Maverick uses a very similar mount that might be used for a short time. Is there a more permanent replacement out there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Welcome to Fordsix,

I don't have a 250 but saw this ifo...hope it helps

The 250 is approximately 1.5â€￾ wider at the motor mount bosses. The original Mustang mounts can be used, but they will place the engine higher in the compartment because of the way the brackets are angled. Elongating the bolt holes in the engine mounts to allow the engine to drop slightly will help, but the proper solution is to use Maverick 250 mounts and brackets. The Maverick mounts are designed differently and will require new bolt holes in the frame.

Do you just need the rubber motor mounts themselves or the frame brackets? Who have you checked with? I could swear that Pioneer and Anchor both make them...

i just got finisht my NEW motor mounts brackets [ laser cut ] , new design !! with urethane bushing ore rubber , with 4 hole,s in it , for standaard hight ,,, and 15 M/M lowering the hight ! it,s look almost the same as the total control suspension motor mounths for the V8,there made from 3 M/M stainles steel and you can use standaard urethane ore rubber from orginal mustang parts ! i,m gone fit it next week into my car and make some pic ! in the upper section of the pic wil welded a pipe into the round cutting ends for insert the urethane bushing ! then the section wil bolt on to the under pic ,

i wil gone see if i can make a nice 3D pic of , that would explane more of how the design is ! give me some time !

Inliner,
I have the correct 250 brackets but am in need of the mounts themselves. I will try and find those two companies you suggested and see if they do, I dont recall having spoken to them. Thanks.

the66mustang,
Definitely keep me apprised of your install since if I still cant find these something like what you have done will be next on my list of mods.

Follow up:

Well, I checked with both Pioneer and Anchor and neither one makes the mounts. AAaaaaarrrggh!

Sorry  I just cant believe that these mounts are that elusive. I must be naive!

I am going to check on the similarity of the 250 Maverick and the 250 Grenada next.

Chris,

I have two sets of these mounts and brackets.

Hey you're in Oceanside if it's whatcha need, you can pick it up in Irvine Friday 6/13 or I'll mail it to you.

Later,
Dennis

Check it out, I pulled those from a Mav. Seems like the mounts are all the same but the frame brackets is what differs from car to car.

Tell me what you think.

So those are Maverick 250 mounts? The mount for a 250 Maverick is the same that is used in the 200 Mustang according to the part numbers which is an easy part to obtain. The question is whether the engine block bracket from a Maverick can be used in place of the Mustang and hooked up with all the proper clearances. I may need to do some serious measuring of my 250 brackets.

Maybe I have been doing this all wrong. Instead of searching for a correct fitting Motor Mount, maybe I need to figure out if the 250 Maverick (200 Mustang) motor mount can fit onto a 250 Mustang frame side bracket. If yes, then maybe it would be a whole lot easier to fabricate the correct engine bracket.

You know all of this would be a whole lot easier if Ford would just continue to make the motor mount they used on their vehicle. So much for 30 year customer service.

Chris,

The only difference is that the 250 seems a tad larger and the angle is a little different.

Okay Dennis, I think I've confused myself now...

Your Ford 250 is from a Maverick. The Mustang 200 uses the same motor mount as the 250 Maverick, but in the photos it looks like that MM would not fit on the 200 you have there. Is that just a product of the picture?

I need to check to see if the 250 Mustang engine bracket uses two bolts to bolt onto the MM and a single down to the frame bracket. I havent held it in my hands to look at in detail since I put it together 4 years ago with some cruddy old used MMs.

If it is a single bolt tothe lower frame bracket, then it should be easier to either use a different engine bracket (ie Maverick, Grenada, etc) or just create one for the task.

Chris,

the 250 mounts "look" sturdier and they are a bit wider but otherwise the angle of the mounting face is the same and bolts are spaced the same. The frame brackets I pulled are totally different from the 200s, the bolts pattern is different.

hey sorry if I've confused you I hope you, I know I ended up getting some frame brackets fabbed for my Comet, the extra cost really outweighed the headaches.

Dennis

Dennis,
Well, I looked at my Mustang 250 engine mount brackets and they are very different from what appearantly went on the Maverick. The Mustang bracket attaches to the block in three places. Two bolts one above the other and then a third bolt further back on the block. Because the frame side bracket lines up slightly back of the block mounting holes they appearantly devised this three-bolt system.

You mention you had ones made for your Comet, was this near Irvine? If you can recommend someone to create these in Orange County (or further south) I would be interested in talking to them.

I was going to download a picture of my brackets but didn't get a chance to this weekend, maybe tomorrow.

Chris

Really? Are the Motor Mounts for the Aussie 250 different than the US Maverick 250/Mustang 200?

Perhaps the right motor mount is still being produced in Austrailia. Wouldn't that be a riot! After everyuthing I have been through!

Okay, looks like I have another lead to pursue.

So if anyone knows the difference in the Aussie 250 Bracket/Motor Mount setup compared to the US 250 Mustang, holler out.... Please!

Chris

I think you can also have your motor mounts rebuilt, but that may be too expensive.
