hi i was wondering if the 73 maverick non loadamatic will fit right in my 170 six, also my buddy said i could have his 250 six and c4 that he broke a timing chain will the 250 still fit in the falcon? thanks guys.

Help us out here. What year is your Falcon? What year is your engine?

...and you wouldn't happen to know the size of the oil pump shaft, would you?

its a 62 falcon 170 i looked and the block has a c1 casing so i imagine 61 it also has a c6 200 head i believe and the exaust manifold had a c8 part number.

The potential problem is your oil pump shaft size. The earlier engines generally had a 1/4" oil pump shaft (which is driven by the bottom of the distributor shaft). Later ones (like the non-Load-o) had a 5/16" oil pump shaft. You would have to remove your distributor to find out which one you have. Once removed, you could check the size of the hex-shaped hole in the bottom of the distributor shaft, and/or place an appropriate-sized socket on the oil pump shaft to turn this oil pump.

A- In a word, No. There are two prohibiting issues. The size of the hole in the block of the early 170 that the distributor sets into is too small. Also as Page 62 pointed out the distributor driveshaft from the oil pump is smaller on your '62.

Q- "will the 250 still fit in the falcon?"

A- Yes, but will require a number of modifications and fabrications. It is not a bolt-in job. The biggest problem is that the 250 is taller by 2". I have a 250 in my '65 Ranchero, which is a bit bigger than your '62, and it was still a tight fit.

Personally, I wouldn't attempt to put a 250 in a round-body Falcon. Too many fitment issues; i.e., too long and too tall.

But a 200 is a nice, neat fit!
