I need some advise, I have a 65 Mustang 6. I currently have a 3.03 Tranny but I am rebuilding a 4 Speed topload (Toploader Heaven Parts) I want to change out my 7.25 rear to a 8" or even 9" Track Loc. Why cant I use a 65 mustang 8" ? Can't I run a 4 lug on the front and a 5 Lug on the back? Since its the same frame would't this be a easy swap?

P.S. Dual post in this area form Drive tain as draw advise from this forum

8) you can use a 4 bolt wheel on the front and a 5 bolt wheel on the rear if you like. you just need to either carry two spares, or a couple cans of fix-a-flat. the only other problem you will have is an imbalance in the brake system. the front brakes will be 9" drums, and in the rear they will be 10" drums. that said if you like, i can set you up with an inexpensive front disc conversion, well the initial parts anyway. i have a disc brake setup from a 73 mustang that i wont be using now. let me know.

I'm running 4 lug in the front and 5 lug in the rear with absolutely no problems whatsoever for over a year now.

Braking is better than what it was before with the bigger drums in the rear from the 8" swap and I carry the 4 lug spare when I go on trips with a can of fix a flat.....My reasoning is that I will have a better chance finding a 5 lug Ford spare along the way if I need it that badly vs the 4 lug spare

I really don't care about the flat issue as I only plan to drive her to work and I always carry Fix-a-Flat. Does anyone know how much a Track lok assembly installed might cost?
