I want to get a new fuel pump for my 215. The old one on it is a double action pump. If I get a single action one, will it work too without affecting the performance of the engine ?? Which isthe best option?

It won't affect the engine in adverse way, but if you have vacuum operated wipers, you'll need to feed them off the manifold.

If you're looking for performance gains, get rid of the mechanical pump all together and go with an electric pump. It won't be much of a gain, but it's one less thing the engine has to operate.

Ford installed double pumps on cars originally equiped with overdrive or automatic transmissions. If your windshield wiper is in good shape you don't need the vacuum booster. If it is not in good shape you should rebuild it.

If you install an electric fuel pump with an old carburetor you have to install a regulator. Ford shop manuals from the 30s-50s state that the upper limit of the carb is 3.5 p.s.i. The stock fuel pump puts out 4.5 in good shape (strange but true; they were that way from the factory). My father has had to deal with the aftermath of two engine fires (he used to run a restoration shop). Both fires were the result of electric fuel pumps on carbureted engines. All in all I think the stock pump is the best choice.

Thanks... Since I am planning to replace the windshield wiper system for an electric one: I could go for the single action pump (mechanical)? .......no need for the vacuum booster? My car is not automatic, it actually was adadted to 4 in the floor.
