Am I correct in saying that in order to remove the oil pan from my '66 Mustang I have to remove the crossmember or at least unbolt one side and swing it out of the way?

Just curious.

Yes indeed- thats what I had to do on my 68's 200 las time i had it off (other than removing the whole engine, hehe)

No. Unbolt the sway bar at the frame, pull it down and the oil pan will slide right out between the crossmember and the motor.

negative! I had to unbolt the sway bar and crossmember and had to force the oilpan out. It was no easy task. BTW, i had to use a neumatic impact wrench to get the crossmember off.

I replaced the oil pan gasket twice and never had to pull the crossmember. You guys just don't know how to slide it in and out properly, that's all

Al

When you all say "crossmember," what are you referring to? The centerlink?

Ok, that explains it. Falcons don't have crossmembers. :)

I had to ask because I had no idea what you all were talking about!

I wouldn't say Falcons don't have crossmembers. I have a 62 Ranchero with a crossmember. I believe crossmembers were standard equipment on Ranchero's and Station Wagons and optional on everything else. Thats my 2 cents worth. Paul.

That's strange... My '64 shop manual doesn't show nor even mention a crossmember. :?

Trust me...you have to remove the front sway bar. Removing the crossmember does nothing for you on a 65-66 mustang. I tried.

It's highly likely that the X-member was phased out over '64 for the Falcons. That was the deal here.

Adam.
