Mustang_Geezers 200 air cleaner is a 15" 2 bbl 3.8 V6 item, but his has the 5.0 lid, often used in S- shell Foxes (and the year only 82 GT lid), but its not always on 3.8's. There were many kinds of shallow base 15" air cleaner from the 1974 Mexcian 5 liter Mustang II era to around 1986 when the last CFi 3.8/5.0's were made.
Normally, the bigger V8's all over the world (Australia, Argentina) in the 70's used the shallow, bigger 17" air cleaner in single snorkel trim. The 302 in the US was a smaller diameter for many years compared to the 17" base used in the overseas 302 2V's, 250 IV's.
The Australian 250 2v had a carb spaced 3.5" further out, so it used a special very shallow 11" diameter air cleaner assembley
The common 17" 302C 2V and 351C 4v lid (same as the 5.0HO GT 4V) just fits in the Falcon engine bay, the 17" housing, does not.
The 1974 Mextang - Mexican Mustang V8 II, was the first car with that 15" shallow base far as I can tell.
Mexicans were the first to make the Mustang II the proper way, with a 302 one year before the US. 122 MPH, 0-60 in 9 seconds, unlike this 106 mph, 0-60 in 10.5 second 1975 US 302 Mustang II "plodder"
some say
Beginning in the 1977 model year, Ford fitted all of its small-blocks with aluminum air cleaners for weight- reduction purposes. This is a 1978 5.0L-2V small-block in a Mustang II with the Motorcraft 2150 emissions 2-barrel carburetor and Duraspark ignition.

The Fox 3.3 was a smaller diameter, but not the same; the I6 air cleaner missed the V8 under cut to fit and clear the 2-bbl carbs float bowl and often fitted Vacuum Operated Throttle Modulator and extra distributor and Air/Con line clearance.
1973-1977 302, then 1978-1980 5.0, then 1980-1982 255, then 1982-1986 3.8, in single snorkle until the 5.0 2V HO GT Mustang and Capri engine for one year only. 1982

I used this to make a custom cold air system for my car. I built a new engine with a taller intake manifold and this no longer fits under the hood so I need to sell it. I can sell just the air cleaner or with the hoses too if someone is interested. The hoses are 4" ID hose and the attachment to the air cleaner was fabricated out of sheet metal and is no longer stock. The emissions connections were all welded shut as well and painted gloss black with a polished lid and a new decal. I have a spare decal i'll include with the sale. It also comes with a K&N filter element. It is not 100% perfect but it worked great on my holley carb. It may have a few nicks and scratches from being in storage. I would like to get $100 for just the air cleaner itself, plus shipping. Located in Fredericksburg.

Now here is a picture of the 3.8L in my '86 convertible, the day I picked it up.
As you can see, one of the previous owners took a "non-standard" belt routing when the decided that it didn't need air conditioning. Am I correct in thinking this is turning my waterpump backwards? How damaging is that? I intend to at least get an a/c compressor mounted so that I can properly route the belt.
Here is a picture of it now, after I used Engine bright, pressure washed it, and installed a fan shroud. Pressure washing it caused the belt to begin squalling (I think I washed off a lot of belt anti-squeak), but putting some soap on the belt quieted it down temporarily, so I assume the squeal is due to the messed up routing, wrong size belt, tension etc.
My rear main is leaking so I will be replacing that shortly, is it easier to pull the engine or the transmission (I have access to a lift and trans jack.)? I also intend to clean the valve covers and paint them blue to match the rest of the motor (looks like ford engine light blue?), which I think will look a lot better than the current peeling black. (I know it isn't original, but the rest of it is already blue, and I've always like the blue ford engines.)
Several people have sent me pictures of their engines, which I will upload later.
Also, shameless plug

Externally, Diameter, 82 5.0 GT's and RS's use 15" DS (Dual Snorkle)
Unless you wanted an 82 GT or RS automatic.... then you got automatically downgraded to a single snorkle 4.2
"http://www.systemv.us/FordV8History/A_
Breif_History_of_Ford_V8s/Small_Block_files/1982-ford-mustang-GT-302-HO-engine.jpg"
Breif or
Litre...great non American English...I feel right at home...
The 83/84/85 all 17". 79-88 4V Carb low GVW F trucks and E vans (7.5/7.0/5.8/5.0 which weren't 6.1 Liter F600's and 700'S were normally single or dual snorkle, 17" as well.
Again, a downgrade to single snorkle if you wanted air con on your 4V 5.8 truck.
82's use the ages old small 15" diameter Ford V8 base, and have size reduction on the 83/84/85's which is great for 9.5" deck Windsors and 9.2" deck Cleveland Fox conversions..the big 17" tends to get too close to the firewall on them. Transplanted 400's, 351M's and 429/460's they just clear with it in Foxes, but then you have hood height issues.
