i was on the freeway and i start hearing a loud poping and feel the car shaking, i get home and find out that my carb is backfiring and the lifters are sounding like they are not getting oil (making a clacking sound) while missfiring

If you have adjustable rockers one of (or more)the exh rocker may have backed off broken bolts that hold down the shaft??
All of this can cause the things you describe.

i was also thinking that might be the prob because my oil press is fine and im not getting blowby

You have to pull the cover off the top and have a look see. Thats the only way to find out.

If you wipe an exh lobe it will back fire back up though the carb but it won't clatter because the base circle is still there in the same place.

8) check your ignition timing and see if it has moved or not. if the spark is too far retarded it will do just what is happening to you.

my '67 had a bad habit of the rocker arms working themselves loose, it would get to the point where the very front pushrod would work itself out from under the valve and it'd do all of those things
took me a while to diagnose as i was very new to all things automotive at the time

has the choke closed? Could be as simple as this.

i took the choke out of the carb, i think it is the rockers, ill find out today

there was a loose bolt on the rocker assembly, fixed it and it runs like a champ again :mrgreen:
