Alloy Valve Cover Update

Powder coating was finally finished yesterday, so I picked them up and took them over to the polisher today. They said they would be ready no later than next Firday (seems like a common response). Anyway, the covers look great. I had them coated in four colors to fill the pre-orders.

The pics below show a raw cover, then red, black, gray, and blue. It's hard to say which looks best, as they all look awesome. But I think I like the red one best.

Mike, I'm so impressed how you have really single handedly created a new zest for these sixes with all your parts now being manufactured. You have a lot of determination, courage and skill. Congratulations on such great stregnth.

If I didn't already have the Clifford cover, I'd be in line to get one. May still do it after the rest of the mods are done.

I actually got to see the cover yesterday at Knotts; very nice. These are very quality feeling and sturdy in hand. Yet, they didn't feel heavy like I had imagined they would. Anyone that orders will not be dissapointed.

I called the polisher today to see if the covers were ready. They were not. I'm not sure if I mis-understood them or if I was told wrong, but they now say they are four to five weeks out. So it looks like it will be two or three weeks more, from today.

I've ran into this every step of the way. Foundry, blaster, machine shop, painter, and now the polisher. Each told me they should be able to do them in a week or two, then end up taking three or four weeks. I guess I just need to double what ever I'm told in the future. It's very frustrating.

Find out who polishes alloy for the hardcore motorbike gangs. Bet they don't screw about with customers.

WHEN?????????????????????
Mike, i,m tired of the chrome valve cover. Thanks

I got the covers back form the polisher a couple weeks ago. When I did, they were pretty dirty so I spent a weekend cleaning them up. I still wasn't happy with them, so I took them back to the powder coater to have them repainted. I stopped by yesterday and they told me they would be ready to pick up this afternoon. So all those who placed a pre-order, your covers will be shipping out on Monday. Along with a free Cap.

In the future, I'll be taking them to the polisher first, then to be painted. It cost a bit more as the painter needs to mask off the fins, but the end result is a better looking cover. It also resolves the high lead time for polishing. Yesterday, I picked up the second batch, from the polisher, and dropped off a third. This way I can keep them on the shelf, ready to be painted, and cut lead time to one week rather than six or more. It just took me a while to figure out which way was going to work best, and which would give me the best quality. But we got it now.

Mike, great news, this valve cover has been a fight & a challange, but sound like you have the situation under control.

I hope the cylinder head & intake manifolds are less of a production headache than the valve cover has been.

Again, keep up the great work. Will
