Alternator, A/C, Pulley giant metal bracket

Does anyone else have this? It is retarted. It hold the alternator, the A/C (which I removed for the picture), and the pulley for the A/C.

Well since I only got one reply of a similar "bracket" can anyone send me pics of their alternator and A/C brackets? I need a better replacement.

That looks just like mine -- 66 Mustang A/C w/ P/S.

The 68 bracket looks much better.



It is cast and the alt tightens the belts.

That does look good - see mine is bolted on the other side of the engine - near the distributor and stuff. It makes no sense

Mine's like stubby's and t-west's too. I've never seen one like yours. What year mustang do you have?

66 - I know that the air conditioner in there is not stock, although it is the original York A/C system. I can try to get a better picture of it - it is the worst welding job I've ever seen! haha

The 65 six I have, had a welded bracket on the pass side.

I might have a line on another 68 style bracket. If so, I will post it here first.

My understanding is that in 66, if you didn't have P/S, the A/C bracket was on the driver's side (like yours) and the alt was in the stock location near the battery. IF you had A/C and P/S, there is one large bracket holding both the compressor and alternator in place of the stock alt bracket and the P/S pump was near the dizzy, etc.

nope, I didn't have PS - just A/C and alt. (of course). I'm wondering, are there any brackets I can buy out there, that I can remove this thing? I will be getting a Sanden compressor, so I'd be fabricating the bracket anyways - just figure someone out there has to have done this before...

have same issue with after market ac system installed, .... b 4 ac ...alternator wasn't as close to exhaust manifold, darned close,,, like the heat sheild ( NO KIDDING,,,, IT"S FRI*&^GEN HOT ) hot there, got worse with the after market ac system,, wrapped exhaust manifold with this funky fiberglass? wrapping stuff to push heat further down the line.. I've looked all over and short of a custom mounting bracket and messing with belt sizes I don't know of a way out

vintageair has them for $91. Still expensive, IMO, but softens the blow. Comes with all bolts and belts needed. Backordered until 15th last I heard.

The vintage air one is what I had, works well, but it doesn't work very well with headers.
I had to put a dent in my headers where the alternator would touch it.
Also, the extra heat transfer to the alternator can lessen it's output and/or ruin it.
The other problem I had with it was that because of the clearance issues with the headers, the alternator belt tension is directly proportionate to the compressor belt tension and caused problems.

I had a Vintage Air system on my 67- It was even installed by them using the factory vents and controls ( they are based in San Antonio). I removed it when I replaced the engine because A/C isnt worth a damn in a convertible and I rarely put the top up. The A/C bracket is really well made and not nearly as massive as the factory one. I know this is not the "for sale" section but if you are interested I will sell the Bracket, Saden compressor, condenser (everything under the hood except for the expansion valve and one hose) for $200.00 plus shipping. If interested, please let me know- John
