I recently acquired a complete engine from a 1979 Fairmont and it has the alternator on the same lower right position as my earlier sixes. This engine has power steering brackets on the left side, but I don't think the alternator would be mounted over there even if it didn't. If you are really serious about moving the alternator over there why couldn't you take the base bracket (mounted with two bolts on the lower right) and redrill it to mount where the power steering bracket mounts (using three bolts on the upper left)? Then all you'd have to do is figure out how to mount the arc shaped adjustment bracket, but since that bracket is flat and reversible it could be made to work using some bolts on the other side.
