AOD tranny

i read an article on the fordsix.com web site about automatic tranny options for the 250 I6 and it said that an AOD tranny will bolt right up and all i would have to do is change the flex plate? has anyone else tried this?

PS: what the difference between AOD AODE and FMX automatics

youll need a custom crossmember for a AOD too. i hear they rob alot of power bu the OD function helps MPG's so its give and take i guess

the 250s use the small block v8 trans bolt pattern so youll find alot of trannys that will work wit them

from what I remember reading, is you need a 300CI flex redrilled.

IIRC sacramento-mustang was selling the AOD crossmember at $149.00

8) you can take the flexplate from a 5.0 with the AOD and remove the balance weight, it is just tack welded on, and have a machine shop make sure the plate is "0" balanced.

well im going to use the almost the same basic set up as the 250 in the article this article
http://www.fordsix.com/tech/engine/old_250.php
the only difference will be that i'll be using a 72 250I6 log cylinder head with bigger vlaves installed and portpolish, 2bbl weber carb, single exhaust w/cherry bomb, 264 hydrolic cam w/matching lifters. will use 255 V8 pistons

i'm shooting for 155 hp hopefully i'll be able to squeeze that much out of the 250. just enough to have some fun with out getting into trouble

I hear that too, and it drives me crazy.
What they're talking about is the power it takes to spin up the rotating mass(es) in the transmission, which only matters when you're accelerating, and usually to a degree that's only noticed at WOT, if you've got a stopwatch or are at a track. In "normal" driving, you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference - particularly if there's a difference in lower gear ratios - and once you're moving down the road there isn't any real difference - except that it's more of a "flywheel".

If I could get an AOD behind my 200 without a lot of gymnastics, I'd be all over it.
