will this head bolt up with out modification to a 200 block. i've heard conflicting answers. what carb is used on such configuration. will it interfere with headers. i found 1 for $800 w/ intake. is that a fair price. if it makes a difference it's not off an x-flow.

8) the 250 2v head bolts on with no problem. the crossflow head needs modification to bolt to the US block.

If it's the Fleabay one presently offered, note that it's being sold prior to container shipping from Australia. It could be up to six weeks in many cases, to the point where it's on your doormat. One week to pack into a box here, two on the water, one clearing the paperwork in America and the rest in domestic packing/transit.

You'd want your purchase to be contingent on two things - a clearly stated delivery timeframe or no-hassle 100% refund, and the head/manifold being free of damage and cracking.

Regards, Adam.

Actually ocean freight from Melbourne to LA at least (not sure to other ports) is 3 weeks and closer to 4 actually most times..)

yes it is the ebay one. i'm not in a big hurry for one. i have no garage yet. i am in the process of selling my house and i've got a contigentcy offer accepted on the one i want. then i will have my garage. after i get setled and the other house updated, it will be time to go out to my garage and finish a lot of projects that i have not been able to complete. so i've got quite some time. by the way i'm also looking for a 200 block if you all know of one in the central illinois area. preferably a high mount starter.

Well, what are the plans for the motor - what car/year, and what level of build?

You might even look at getting Phil to throw in a full Oz 250 shortblock (unbored/unturned) and a Ford Australia T-5 or C-4 bell. That you're in no hurry, might play in your favour.

will the oz 250 bolt in. i have a 62 comet with a 170. my lack of welding ability really limits my fabricating abilities.

i was asking about the block bolting in.

The block is 9/10 of a bolt-in using the original 200 mounts. The last 10% relates to it's oil pan clearing the steering centre link. Many people simply use a pair of spacers and longer through bolts to raise the mounts high enough for clearance (about 5/16").

I can't weld either. There is another set of motor mounts that may be used with fabricated brackets, but I haven't done them to prove it.

Trans tunnel clearance may vary; I am not sure what year the tunnel was enlarged. To some extent, it depends on the transmission selected.

1962.5, the mid year revision of the roofline and the apearance of the Futura/Comete and the Fairlane allowed Ford to pump up the firewall to fit the 160 teeth flywheel V8's. All were based on the same XK2000 'Falcon' tooling, and it was a cinch to incorporate the changes.

The Aussie 250's use the same early 160 teeth flywheel as the early 1965 to 1966 221/260/289 V8's ( still do today).

An Aussie 250 should just fit an early pre 62.5 trans tunnel. After 1966, the V8's went to a much larger type of bolt spacing, with small 157 and large 164 teeth flywheels, with two types of bellhousing. The block pattern on the US six bolt V8 bolt pattern 289/302/351's and US 250's and 240/300's make sledge hammer work mandatory, and the bigger Toploader, T5 and C4 type tranmissions require hammer work in the tunnel.

Same with the 60 and 61 Falcons and Rancheros...they need hammer time, and reversing of the drag link between the idler and pitman arm to clear the US 250 or 300 sump, but the Aussie 250 is quite a lot smaller than the US version.

If its late 62, it won't be a problem, but if its early 62, then you'll need to have a big friendly hammer. Best discussions were from 61 Ranchero...he shoved a 300 and four speed into his little black 1961 pick-up, and although it was hard work, it transformed a little underpowered truck into a seriously cool truck which looks totally stock on the outside. Powerband has a really good page on his postings. His Comete has a US 250, and it fits, but he had to swap over the drag link, and , from memory, smack the firewall with a hammer and gas axe to get it to fit easily.

so, a aussie 250 fits in better than a u.s. 250? will i be able to get aussie parts for upkeep and repairs?

Parts are not hard to get, but you should allow ten to twelve days. I've sent stuff to Forum members and it's frequently arrived about six calendar days later. Generally, for consumables I refer people to "American Autos" (weird name, I know  ) or gimmecarparts, while for used parts I suggest they contact forum member xdee.
