Autolite 1100 question

I have a 66 200ci. Will the DUI dizzy work with my 65 Autolite 1100? It has a spark control valve and currently works with a Load-a-matic dizzy. I'm not looking for a hot rod, just a (mostly stock) sometimes cruiser.

It should work fine. Most of us are running the vacuum advance for our non load o dizzys direct off the manifold. The 66 head shoud have a fitting centered under the carb that went to the transmission on AT models, on mine I just put a T in there. Im running a duraspark but the load o was the only one that was really different. Just plug the hole where the load o is hooked now.

63futuraRag- the best answer is "no". The DUI is designed for a ported vacuum signal. TJHs solution to the mismatch is a crutch. It will work, sorta. It will give you too much advance at an idle and at steady cruise speeds, which generate high vacuum engine conditions. To accomodate that you may need to reduce you initial advance setting- no what you want. If you do alot of highway cruising watch you plugs for signs of peppering- a sign of silent pre-ignition or knock.

Peppering is dark fleck on the white porceilyn.

The mismatch does work out fairly well for engines with a longer duration then stock cam, which reduces cylinder pressure.

If you've invested in a DUI distributor you would be wise to step up to a Carter YF or RBS, or a 1101 from a '69 Mustang with a 250. The 1101 would be compatible with your stock '66 linkage as it is very similar to your stock 1100, but does not have a SCV and does have a ported vacuum source. The Carters would require either some adaptation for the linkage or conversion to a throttle cable system.

Thanks for all the good info. I did not think the DUI and 1100 would be a good match, but needed some advice. I have a C4 Trans that uses the manifold port. I have 2 C4s and cannot get either of them to stop leaking fluid, but that's another story. I'm leaning toward a new carb.

David, are you telling me that I can run the vacuum line from the DUI into the 1101 carb vacuum inlet, just like I am doing now with the Load-O and the 1100? One more question, I have an automatic choke. Does the 1101 come with that confguration?

Howdy:

The Autolite 1101 from a 1969 Mustang with a 250 engine will have a ported vacuum source which is compatible with your DUI distributor. It will NOT have a SCV. The 1101 and the 1100 are almost identical in appearance. The best way to differentiate is to measure the diameter of the throttle bore- the 1100 measures 1 7/16th, the 1101 1 11/16".

Its automatic choke could likely be identical to your 1100. There were some variations, but most were the hot air tube from the exhaust manifold.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the throttle bore? Are you talking about the opening where the carb fits onto the carb spacer, also known as the throat? I guess you've figured out I'm not a mechanic.
