Autolite 1100 rebuild-install balls not present on teardown?

There are 3 steel balls that were not present on the teardown of my carb. Unfortunately, the carb came off of an engine core and I have no knowledge how the carb preformed after its previous rebuild. And based of the P/N, the carb is not original to the engine core (engine core was '66 and the carb is C3UFF). Please see the attached link for a scan of the exploded view of the carb with the 3 balls highlited. One of the three balls does not appear to apply since it refers to a non-144/170/200/250 engine. WHat about the rest?

Second question - what specs do I use with respect to the float height and other adjustments - since I do not know what this carb originally was used on. All I can find on the spec shts is a statement excluding C3UF-F. Now what? Spec sheets attached. Do I use the specs for '63 or '64 (they are different)? TIA

All mine had 44 and 45. Did it have 42? I would not think the accel pump would work well without 44. I could see it running fine without 45. I dont remember a 43.

Search for something like 1100 float level. I remember seeing several threads with a float level that worked well for people that was not what was in any of the books.

Use the specs for your engine. Maybe give the the float an extra 1/32".

You need three balls. 42 is for the big sixes. Do you have the weight, # 41?

Airbert, I recently rebuilt a Autolite 1100 carb (C30F-A) that was orginally from a 63'Fairlane with a 170cid engine. Since I don't know specifically the spec's for your particular carb, I can only tell you that my carb had only two of the three steel balls installed (#44 & #45 on your sheet), but not # 43! I believe, but not positive here, that steel ball #43 is if you have a 1100 carb that is for an automatic transmission carb; a carb that has both the "dashpot & lever assy." as well as the "pump & lever assy."! These two assemblies look the same to me, and are located on opposite sides of the carb. The standard trans. model 1100 carb has only the "pump & lever assy." I believe?? And by the way, on my rebuild I set the float level 1"! Hope this helps, good luck. Jim

As always, it's always best to give us lots of info. Cars with an automatic have a dashpot, and those with manual don't (normally). Go to your sig and tell us more about your car.

It takes different numbers based on type, up to 4 as your diagram shows. I just rebuilt one today. It took three, but the carb was off a manual tranny so there was no anti stall, thus, no 4th ball. So, three with manual, 4 auto, but I have not seen a rebuild kit with more than three! Save your extras!

Thanks all for the responses. My carb had ball #41 & the weight. Manual trans - looking at the illustration again (after reading your responses) it makes sense that my carb should not have ball #45. Signature attached
