I'm having a heck of a time finding an after market air filter/cleaner that fits the small throat opening of a single barrel autolite 1100 carb.

Can anyone recommend a web site that sells adapters or complete air filters/cleaners to fit an autolite 1100?

I have the stock filter, but would like something smaller.

Thanks for the help.

The other way you can go is to use the base of the stock one-barrel air cleaner and the same size top from an aftermarket open element air cleaner.

I made a custom air cleaner from the base plate of an old air cleaner mated to the bottom of an aftermarket Edelbrock air cleaner. My carb is a Holley 1940 but I think it is the same opening as a 1100. I picked up a used base plate and hacked it up so that it fit well.

And mounted it looks like this:

Also, this way you can take advantage of the convex surface of the air cleaner base to clear the hood.
Hope this helps and good luck!

You can't even see the non chrome part of the old intake. Thsat does look nice.

I measured my carb throat and came up with about 56mm or 2.21 inches, which is about a 2 5/16 throat. On line at K&N I think I found a small round carb air cleaner. It is 1.5 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter. It says the lower flange is hard rubber and should fit +/1 a couple of mm. I'll give it a whirl and see if it fits.

I guess you can see from my avatar that I found a great K&N that fits under the hood on an Autolite 1100. Rubber flanged on the bottom and best of all...reusable again and again, etc....

Thanks for the help.

mustangs plus sells an air cleaner for the 1100 just like that for 30 bucks. it is short so it will fit under the hood. mustangsplus.com

A friend and I were tossing this idea around last night...as the very first thread I've read in this forum...I'm very impressed (and motivated to go do this!). ;)

YOU TOOK MY IDEA!!!!! well I guess not you did it first, o well But That was my intentions because I wanted to either get a chrome edelbrock air cleaner to match my valve cover (well really match the breather because I bought a breather that says edelbrock so it kinda makes it look like an edelbock cover....but its not....) or do the ram air thing, not quite sure...

I'll be happy to share the honors with you in the "first to do it" category.
I have been trying to find a chrome breather cap with a hose that can route back into the air cleaner - the ones I have found are either without a hose or push-on only (I need a twist on).
