Auxiliary lead?

Recently I had to replace the positive cable on my battery, it had an additional wire, which I think is a auxiliary lead, that was spliced into my harness. What would this be used for exactly?

Could be for practically anything - an electric fan, extra lighting, stereo system, aftermarket ignition, alarm system.... anything a previous owner may have added on.

I also have one of those on my '69 Falcon Kriek.

Never had needed it for anything yet!
