I just installed a remanufactured Carter RBS on my 170. Everything seems fine with it. It idles smooth accellerates good except when I step on the peddle, then it back fires like crazy.I have adjusted the idle speed and played with the fuel mixture nothing seems to help.
I am hoping that someone out there can give me some help.

Hey buddy

sounds like a timing problem get a light on there and see its its set at 12 TDC if it is check to see its the timing is 180 degrees off and check to see how much vacume your pulling.. What type of set up do you have, any performance mods ext. its not that big of a problem can be fixed in just a few minutes. Hope this helps

Thanks, timing is what I was thinking also. I had it set a 6 TDC as per the spec. tag on the valve cover. I will try setting it at 12 TDC as you sudjest GOT_FORD, let you know how it works.

I am running a stock 170 out of a Mavrick in my 63 Falcon with a RBS carb that came with the moter. I have had the car for 25 years it has been in storage the last 8. I am slowly starting to rebuild it, (as fast as the extra cash and my wife will let me).
