My 65 200/C4 has been sitting for six months, I had some medical issues that got in the way. I had the battery on a tender and this afternoon after a squirt of starter fluid she fired right up.

Here is where Im at:
Four of six plugs are oil soaked, but all six cylinders show good compression.
The PO replaced the carb, its not a LOM, I think the dizzy is. runs like crap, will not drop out of fast idle.
Big exhaust leak between the head and exhaust manifold.
New 1 3/4 exhaust system from mustangs Unlimited.
The C4 runs and shifts ok but leaks like crazy.
The head is a D0, I don't know what the block is.

I bought a 200/C4 out of a 68 Mustang that was getting a V8 transplant. The shop that pulled it says all is good. The engine has an adapter with a weber carb, I also got a set of longtube headers. I did not get a dizzy, otherwise I got everything that bolts to the engine.

I bought the misses a nice 65 289/C4 car so I get to do what I want with this one.

Questions:

How do I determine if the oil on my plugs is from valve seals or rings? I would like to pull the head, install my 144 intake valves and mill the log to mount the weber.

Whats the approximate cost to convert from the C4 to a 3 speed or 5 speed? I have a 3 speed out of a 75 F100, is that suitable for a Mustang? I do not have the linkage or shifter.

How do I determine if my dizzy is a LOM? I forgot how to figure it out.

Many more questions. but this is a good start.

1) If your compression numbers are good and equal through all 6 cylinders, the oil is probably from the valve seals.

2) A T5 conversion can run from $500-$1500 depending on how patient and thrifty you are. If you aren't going with a build of over 200HP, just look for a 4 cylinder T5 transmission. I got a rebuilt one from ebay that I thrashed on for a few years for $350. Spent $100 on having the driveshaft modified for length and slip yoke. $150 for the transmission mount and $150 for the bell adaptor. If you have any access to machine shop tools, there are plans available to build those yourself if you have the skills and tools (or a friend who will work for beer). Don't quote me on the parts prices though, haven't look in a while.

What's the car again?

Its a 65 Mustang.

I would rather it be a 63 Falcon.

good choice, where are you located?

Do you have a copy of the Falcon Performance Manual? It is a great resource to have get it at classicinlines.com and includes info on T5 conversion.
The T5 adapters are available from Modern Driveline.
Don't know about your area but we have picnpul yards that have a half price day periodically. Great time to go trans shopping just find out which model and year vehicle as donor. There is a lot of info on here for this trans can be found using search feature.
Good luck.
