My 65 200/C4 has been sitting for six months, I had some medical issues that got in the way. I had the battery on a tender and this afternoon after a squirt of starter fluid she fired right up.
Here is where Im at:
Four of six plugs are oil soaked, but all six cylinders show good compression.
The PO replaced the carb, its not a LOM, I think the dizzy is. runs like crap, will not drop out of fast idle.
Big exhaust leak between the head and exhaust manifold.
New 1 3/4 exhaust system from mustangs Unlimited.
The C4 runs and shifts ok but leaks like crazy.
The head is a D0, I don't know what the block is.
I bought a 200/C4 out of a 68 Mustang that was getting a V8 transplant. The shop that pulled it says all is good. The engine has an adapter with a weber carb, I also got a set of longtube headers. I did not get a dizzy, otherwise I got everything that bolts to the engine.
I bought the misses a nice 65 289/C4 car so I get to do what I want with this one.
Questions:
How do I determine if the oil on my plugs is from valve seals or rings? I would like to pull the head, install my 144 intake valves and mill the log to mount the weber.
Whats the approximate cost to convert from the C4 to a 3 speed or 5 speed? I have a 3 speed out of a 75 F100, is that suitable for a Mustang? I do not have the linkage or shifter.
