Thanks. I'll hold off on the gear change until I upgrade the cam and switch to the AL head.

Hi 66M2012,

Our little sixes respond to the same power mods as any V-8.

For performance remember the 3Cs of Power: Camshaft, Carb and Compression.

The other mods that seem to have a good effect are headers (along with larger exhaust system), going to an electronic distributor (versus the vacuum only Load-o-matic, especially if you swap carbs), and a deeper rear gear.

Each subject above has a few options, but please do a search and then ask more direct questions.

sorry, I was observing, without participating. Really appreciate refreshing this thread. I like bigderasa's list. thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Spent the weekend reading the falcon performance book. Great read and most helpful. Recommend it highly to any other new guys looking for direction. It gives step by step advice on what to upgrade first, next, next, etc. I'll be coming back here when I get stuck on the details, for sure.

bigderasa, what coil did you use, and where did you dig up the wiring harnesses etc? I noticed in the stick dsII post that salvaging them from a donor works. Are there new harnesses, etc available.? thanks.

If you get the harness from a donor car there are only a couple or three wires to connect. Its best to get the setup from a donor car and then replace what needs to be replaced. Other than the harness, you can get every part of the system from a neighborhood parts store.

What helps when you get a harness is to leave it all plugged in as much as possible while you are pulling it. the coil, distributor, and spark box can be removed while still connected and the wires that go to the main harness of the car will be the two or three you will splice into your existing wiring.

But each part uses a different connector so once you get the harness you can't get the connectors plugged in wrong. :D
