i have a 200 l6 in my ford mustang, i recently put in a cam and when i went to time it, there was no compression coming out of the 1 one piston. so i took off the valve cover and realized that my lifters cant spin... un bolted up my rocker rams and my rod are bent, now i realized that with the new cam i went from hydraulic to solid and i believe thats the reason why they are bent.

what should i do to fix this problem, i thought about using a adjustable rocker arms and/or smaller push rods?? please help i wanna get this car up and running this weekend.

yeah i know i have to get new ones, what about the size of them, should i get the 8 5/16 the ones i have now or get the shorter 8 1/15????

You have to set up the adjustable rocker arms, and use a pushrod length checking tool, if you're not sure.

That said - why should the pushrods have bent? Is valve timing right?

Have you changes your valve springs aslo? If not have you at least checked to see if you are running into coil bind.
Bent pushrods are usally a sign of mechanical interfenrence.

The adjustable rockers should be able to take up any differences in size. Unless you've had a lot of machine work done then I do as Addo suggested.

He had solid lifters with non-adjustable rocker arms. Which is why I couldn't get my previously owned remanufactured motor to start properly; none of the valves were closing.

on my 170 when the valves were sticking (motor sat for a long time) it would bend the crap out of the pushrods (cup would pop off the rocker) I am guessing he is having the same problem.

Solid lifters are taller than hydraulic lifters, so that's going to compound the problem of using non-adjustable rockers. Which is probably why they bent.

no what happened, was we were going to time it and we carnked it over to get # 1 piston to top dead center, and no air was coming out. i later found out that i had hydralic lifters in there and now with the new cam i have solid..

Mike,
I think you got this backwards. Solids need longer pushrods, so the lifter itself is shorter.
I'll have to verify this when I get home. It to early in the morning to remember......
