It was the carb. The throttle shaft was so worn that it was killing off the engine. That is probably where the heat was coming from that cooked my header. Too lean I guess. Anyways, on to the next problem....errrrrr, challenge!
How big a difference? Night and day. I was feeling bad about the money I spent on that engine for a rebuild and it came out like doo-doo. The carb was bought and sitting on my bench so I bucked up, made some linkage and threw it on. Glad I did before going any further. It still has issues, thats alot of carb for a 205(?) with nothing more than a header on it. I also have 2.83 gears which doesn't help the party. Add to that I have AC, power brakes and steering and I'm about to throw a 130 amp alternator on it, I think it does pretty darned good!
I will try and take the old one apart and get pictures up so you can see what I was trying to make work.
