If I accelerate into higher rpm ranges and then let up on the gas abruptly and let engine compression slow me down along with some braking a pretty good puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust. Is that an indication of weak rings? Have not done a compression check yet and this is a used 1970 250 engine that according to previous owner had a valve job and was in a Mustang that had about 80,000 miles. All input appreciated.
