i know this question has been asked a million times but when i take my car out it bogs when i hit the pedal quickly. i need to find out what is is and fix it soon because my capri is soon to be my daily driver and i need to smog it for the first time. it is a 1980 mercury capri 200ci c3 tranny and i belive a holley 1946. i am new with carbs so if you guys could help me out with pictures. like where the accelerator pump is and jets. tell me like you would tell a kid.

It sounds like the accelator pump not working right...
Pull the air filter off and look down the carb and move the throtel linkage (motor off) and see if there is a nice shot of gas going down the inside. It should shoot gas inside the carb with the slightest movement of the linkage. if it doesn't then its bad or out of adjustment.... to find the accelator pump there is a rod that comes off the throtel on the carb and goes to the back or the side of the carb and moves a lever thats the accelator pump...

HI NATER
go to this page
http://www.albertpenello.com/mustang/
Click on engine then see which carb you have the first is the 1946 the second is the RBS and the Third is the Holly/weber..
If yours is the First one then the Center pic shows the choke set up, the first pic shows the hot water choke and the lever below that would be what is ativating the Acc pump. follow it to see what your accelator pump looks like....
On the Second carb the RBS you can clearly see the accelator pump in the middle of the float bowl..
hope this helps

what does the accerator pump look like a picture would be appreciated.
It is essentially a cylinder in the carb body that houses a diaphragm on a rod. You have to take the carb apart and replace the diaphragm.

i don't think it was the accelerator pump. i adjusted it today along with the timing and it runs pretty good. even though i adjusted the carb while all the vacuum lines were hooked up. i also need to take the carb off and tighten the base to body. then it should run perfect. it doesn't bog anymore. it actually has great throttle response and i was doing long burnouts with no brake. and if there are any other things you guys think i should do before smog please let me know.
