BW Extension Housing Seal

3 speed all-synchro manual box... I was given an NOS extension housing seal by a mate, but it's for an HK or somesuch. Did the yoke OD change at all for the Ford manual driveshafts? How tight is a new seal supposed to be on the yoke? This is pretty snug, maybe too much so. The seal OD is fine, just want to be sure before I dab it with Permatex and drive it in.

Adam,
This is probably too late, but the seal when new should be quite firm. On a dry shaft and brand new.
Always lubricate the seal and the shaft. Before fitting.
Seal around the outside edge and fit.
Late model ford drive shafts from XR to XF outside diametre of the slip joint areas are all the same size (I believe).

Thanks, Noel. Not too late. Anyone who spends five years on a diff doesn't do things in a hurry! So what you're saying is "If it fits snug, it's OK" - correct? I always prelube (usually with moly grease), and spin the yoke quite a few times by hand in case of any little imperfections that need bedding in.

Providing the sealing surface of the shaft is servicable, both contact surfaces are lubricated for initial start up. There should be no reason to bed in the seal.
But all shafts shaould be rotated after seal replacement to ensure correct refit of all components.
