Clifford sells a CAM kit that includes:

- 264 Camshaft
- Hyd. Lifters
- Springs
- Retainers
- Valve Locks
- Chrome Moly Pushrods

Are these all parts on the engine block, or are some of them part of the head? I don't know very much about engines and since I am having the head completely done I want to make sure that I am not purchasing duplicate parts when purchasing the kit.

Thanks!

Go to http://www.fordsixparts.com/

That site is run by Az Coupe. He is now or very soon will be stocking cams and valvetrain parts and prices are MUCH better than Clifford. And the selection is better.

That sounds like most of the parts but you will need valve stem seals also.

Besides, if you buy from Az Coupe you help save a kitten.

Tha camshaft, lifters and pushrods are in the block (well, pushrods are part of both).

THe rest are head parts.

Just so I understand this correctly.

If I am getting the head rebuild with all new parts, the only thing I need in addition to the Camshaft is the lifters and pushrods for the block. Correct?

Is there anything else I should replace on the block that would be routine when removing the head and engine?

If I am not going to have the block completely rebuilt, should i altleast have a shop go over the block to maybe replace anything that is bad?

It all depends on the condition of the block...

Do a compression test before you tear it apart... that will help.

Then when you do tear it apart...
Inspect the gasket to see what if anything was going on in there before.
It would not hurt to check the rings, pistons, cyl walls, etc... for wear and problems.. it is easier to address items in the block when it is out and you are rebuilding than if you put a rebuilt head on there and have issues after...

Another thing to consider is milling the head and decking the block to create perfect surfaces to put it all together again.. also if it is a stock engine you will have to compensate for the added thickness of the head gasket....

Get your hands on the Falcon Six Performance handbook,
http://falconperformance.sundog.net/
it will shed a ton of light and offer dozens of tips and suggestions you should consider if rebuilding the head or block on a 200... you might want to change heads altogether... maybe not... depends on the desires you have for the car.

Good luck, enjoy the ride... mine is almost completely put back together and going into the car this weekend... it has been five months in the making...

I would at least get the springs too.

Stock springs are kind of winpy and you may be getting the old springs. They are simply not up to a high-lift cam running at higher rpm. After all, they've been bounced a couple million times already.

Also, stock springs may not allow the same kind of lift without binding.
