My C4 automatic got a shift kit and new oil pan.
I reinstalled everything and filled the transmission up to the full mark. It sat for almost 2 years now. With my new camshaft there are a few questions that are critical for a (transmission-) safe break in:

When I break in my new cam, do I just check the trans fluid level while breaking in and add fluid if it gets to low? Or do I overfill it at first?

Is it even possible to check the level when the engine revs around 200-2500rpm?

Do I keep the transmission in park or in neutral?

So many questions I am sorry but I want to keep the C4 healthy ;)

The camshaft breaking in doesn't really have anything to do with the transmission, other than making sure the transmission is in Park while you're breaking in the cam (20-30 minutes at a steady 2500-3000 rpm is the standard). I would suggest putting a zinc additive in the engine oil before you start the break-in process.

As far as the transmission, the fluid should be checked after the transmission is warm (the engine has run for a while, as in after a cam break-in). If it shows low, then add until it's in the proper range on the dipstick. You should avoid overfilling.

Thanks John!

Then I will leave the transmission in Park and check levels as you suggested.

The transmission fluid level has to be checked with the engine running and at operating temperature.
