Carb Adapter wanted

:D I'm working on a tight budget. Does anyone have a carb adapter that will mount a 5200 Holley/Weber to a 250 head for sale? I bought the carb from Stovebolt, but the adapter they sold me is to small for the intake and I'd like to keep my costs down so used is cool. :thanks:

Bob,
I think the adaptor from Stovebolt and from Clifford (the older style or regular, not to be confused with the "low clearance" one) are made to go on top of the "heat riser". I'm not positive about this but I have the 5200 adaptor from Clifford which has the 2 5/8" non drilled flange to the intake with the large 1.75" opening. The bolt stud spacing for the Intake is 3 5/8" on my 78 head so that's the only logical thing I've come up with. I'm waiting for the shorty adaptor now from Clifford and will let you know if this works. To save bucks I'd find a heat riser to put under the adaptor.

You may be right. I don't have a heat riser. I was also thinking about making one up from a chunk of alloy. I think I read a post some time back that said that the Cliffy adapter mounted the carb with the bowl facing towards the fender which causes starvation.

Please let me know how your adapter works.

Happy Holidays,

Bob,

Look on ebay ;) I've seen at least 2 on there in the last month that went cheap!!

Bob,
I was told that the small heat riser (1 5/8") could be modified to except the adaptor (1.75"). After trying this I didn't think there was enough meat left on the sides of the heat riser to seal properly against vacume leaks. I would look for the right one off a later car and go that route.

To clear up a point about Clifford adapters. Clifford sells both a generic 2bbl to 1bbl adapter and the one intended for the Weber 32/36 or 38/38. It just so happens that the Weber adapter fits the Holley 5200 (same bolt pattern). If you purchase the generic adapter (the ont that is not drilled for the manifold), you will be in the same boat as if you purchased the one from Stovebolt. The Weber - Clifford adapter, which is made to mount the Weber / Holley 5200 on the Mustang 6 without the manifold heater comes in two sizes, one for the 1.5" manifold hole and one for the 1.75" hole. If you ordered the generic one you saved a little money but you bought yourself linkage and air cleaner headaches. If you are willing to do this the Stovebolt is cheaper.

Regarding mounting. You can place the carb with the float bowl facing the valve cover, or the passanger fender. The valve cover orientation makes linkage set up easier on the early car (no cable throttle). As for fuel starvation, this issue has been covered many times. If you experience this issue, and not all do, all you need to do is abjust the float level so as to raise the fuel level slightly. Again, not all carbs need to be adjusted after install. Just as not all carbs need to be re-jetted. But adjustment should be on the list of possibilities regardless of the type of carb you get.

Let's try this[http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/30b8b23f/bc/My+Photos/5200+adapt.jpg?BCwdn69AWlCSjnnn/img]

The carb adapt pictures are really interesting. I have never seen this type before.

The clifford unit always made me kinda concerned when I had to start drilling my own holes.

That gives me an idea on how to make my flat atapter for my 5200 carb. Thanks for the photos. I like the E-Pick up too!

Hey Bob, thanks for posting the pics!! Now How about sending me an Email at sdolan@scannersllc.com and tell me how you did it please. I don't seem to be able to figure this one out!! Both of those are for sale as well as the Carberator. I'll send a pic to the Yahoo site of the truck finished by the way.

Thanks
Steve
