Carb ID please

Best I can tell you now is that the first number decodes to a part that was created in
1963 and is a Motorcraft (or Autolite).
And released through the following department
Electrical and Electronics Division or Product Engineering Office

The second number however decodes to a part that was used on a
1965 Comet And released through the following department
light truck engineering

So my uneducated guess is that its a carby off of a '65 Comet, I could be wrong..

Any chance of a picture?

Howdy Green Streak:

Check the tag again. If it reads C3AF it is an Autolite 1101 with a SCV. If the suffix is an A it is for a standard trans car. If the suffix is a B it is for an auto. I don't find a C suffix code for '63 in any of my references- that's not to say one doesn't exist!

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. The tag is in great shape and I re-checked the numbers, I posted them accurately. I know the head on this engine is not the original and was assuming the carb was a replacement from another vehicle as well (does have the spark control valve). I rebuilt it and it still doesn't seem to set up the way I want. Any suggestions on a reliable replacement (all stock).
Thanks again
Greg

David,
Where do you get your carburator information from? I've been compiling resources for personal use and to share later. So far I can decode the Prefix of most parts correctly and if I know what the BPN means I can tell you what sort of part it is, but since I dont have any information about the actual carburator or what vehicles used it I cannot at this point tell you which carb it was, nor which vehicles used it.

My Part Decoder

When I posted the information above I plugged in
I know that one of the folowing numbers is not BPN 9510 but I dont know which one so I plugged in both.
C3PF-9510-C
C5GA-9510

Are you sure that its the carb causing the problems? Not the distributor's advance mechanism(s)?

Howdy Back:

Ron- my first reach is for the Pony Ford Carb Guide book. But I've been compiling and cross checking for a loooong time. Old service manuals are a good resource when you can find them.

Green streak- Have you done the distributor yet. Almost always when these carbs don't work right the distributor, or its vacuum system are at fault. Be sure to check the hot air choke systems too.

The Autolite 1100/1101 are about as simple and durable a carb as you can find. Keep it clean and plan on replacing the accelerator pump diaphram periodically.

David,
Thanks for the heads up on the book, I'll add it to my list of 'must get' items. This morning before work I started entering information from a Mustang Restoration Guide (I can get you the real name if you need it and ISBN) it only covers Mustangs from '64.5-73 and I only got information pertaining to 170-200's (the 250's are on a different page). You are more then welcome to view the data if you like
Mustang 1bbl Carburators

Sorry to shang hai your thread Greg.

I think you are right Ron. The distributor was off by a tooth. She running pretty good now, just a little rich. Thanks for the interest guys.

David; I don't really know much about distributors or how to properly adjust the Vacuum advance or even set the dwell for the points. Any resources or suggestions? (I have a shop manual on order through E bay just waiting on its arrival)
