Carb Identification & Tunning

Ok I am fairly new to Holley carbs (odd, I know) so I have a few questions about them that I think would be usefull for a lot of people on here.

1) What the heck did I buy on eBay!?!?

What it was said to be: Guy said it was a 390cfm, VAC Seconds, ELEC Choke.

Numbers, on the body:
6R 1269 B
603 ECZ V
LIST 1273
on the bace: 12R-1631B
on the Metering Block (Mains):
34-R-1535 B 4
158
on the Metering Block (Seconds):
34-R-1535 B 1
1850 <-"0" like a deg symbol

I know that it has VAC seconds, but I have never seen a carb with VAC Seconds with a metering block?

2) What Rebuild kit do I need to get?

It is going on a 300 with 4bbl Offy intake and Long tubes and Stock cam (for now).

3) What size power valve do I put in the secondary metering plate? Do I use the same size as the Mains? Holley has good insite on the mains.

4) Where should I start with on the Jets? Mains = #44s, Secondarys = #46s??

5) Can I tell from the casting numbers if I have the power valve blowout check ball?

Thanks for any help guys!

The model number should be stamped on the front of the horn, (is there a horn?) - the angled casting that holds the choke assembly, above/around the front two barrels - on the main body of the carb. Maybe you can get a bit more info out of the seller? I can't find anything for the numbers you listed.

If the secondary metering plate is not an add on, it indicates that you might have a model 4150, rather than a 4160 series. There ARE conversion kits, so you MIGHT be dealing with a modified 4160. Does the rear bowl have an accelerator pump?

Based on your location, I think you'll probably end up with 49-50's, maybe 51's, for the jets, and 6.5 power valves would be a good starting point.

If you're going to get into Holleys, having a range of jets & power valves is usually the best approach - allowing you to tune it to your specific application.

Good luck!

Thanks for the Info.

All that is on the horn is...
603 ECZ V
LIST 1273

The guy I got if from on eBay is a total tool and I don't even want to think about talking to him. :x He riped me off bad  ...but I digress.

I think it might have been converted to a 4150 cuz the body on the secondaries side is a little beat up in a few spots, like prying with a screw driver. Not bad though.

The rear bowl does have an accelerator pump.

On another board a guy told me that "That carb is an OEM correct carb for a 1957 Thunderbird 312"

The guy who sold it to me spray bomed it with gold paint. So I need to dip it or clean it some how.

anyone else have any more info?

I did a quick Google and got '57 T bird as well. A rebuilt one seems to have sold for a hair under $300.

Well I got a Kit that I think will fit. I will post the # if it does fit. I ran out of carb cleaner (to get the spray bomb paint off) so I will have to get that tomarrow along with the quick change secondary spring kit. I think I am going to keep it if it runs well.

Going to tear into it more tomarrow.

Well I read through my emails about the Carb again. I had originaly won a 390 but it was broken durring shipping so I filed a claim and the guy sold me a 410 for the same price. Well he refused to get off his ass and do his part of the claim so I was out $190!! :x

The seller was Chuckandjane3.

I would not get another Carb from him for 2 reasions:

1) He is a Figgin LIER! He said that the carb was rebuilt. It had bugs in the bowls and the Idle screws where completely disintigated!
He also spray-bombed the carb gold and sent me only fuzzy pics so I could not tell what I was getting.

2) He is a thief! He would not fill out the claim and I could never get a hold of him. (never ansered his phone, emaild me only if he didn't get money or wanted to sell me something.)

Ok so I am done ranting now...

Now for the next problem. I took the shafts out of the throughtle plate and the main shaft is worn pretty bad. I have a repair shaft kit on order but don't know if it will fit. I have almost $300 in this carb and don't even have it together yet!! Ahhhhh!

The question I have is: Can I get new bushings for the secondaries? I can't find the anyplace and the parts store here can only look up whats in the holley book (and there not in there.) :?

Thanks for letting me rant guys!

BUMMER!

I've got a good spare, but you know how I love to keep spare stuff  .

IIRC, a new one from Summit or Jegs is ~ $300. Maybe, if you're interested, I'd let it go the spare go & use the $$$ for a down payment on an 80507 ( 4150/390 cfm "pro" series) :D .
