Carb Issues Agian

I took my car to the shop because I'm still having some issues. Turns out my carb is a piece of junk. He recommends that I use a holley 500cfm. I have a 300cfm right now. He says he has built a few 200's and 250's with Aussie heads and use the 500 holleys and had great success with them. Just wondering what you guys' thoughts are.
Thanks

Im assuming by your sig that you have a 200. A 500cfm Holley will be too big for a 200. A 300-350cfm Holley will go well on a 200.
That is unless you have huge mods/high rpm engine

No huge mods. Just whats in my sig... thats kinda what i was thinking about the 350 cfm. I think i'll just get what i have rebuilt. or maybe buy one of the 1.08 and then rebuild and sell the 1.14 i have on there right now just to make a comparison...

Howdy JMG:

What causes you to think your 1.14 is "A piece of junk"? About the only things that would cause me to quit on a 1.14 would be stripped screw holes, stripped gas line hole, badly worn throttle shaft holes, or a badly warped body. Everything else is easily and cheaply fixed or rebuildable. It is probablly the easiest ever carb to work on, is durable and reliable and easy to tune on. If I were you I'd sure check out a rebuild. If you do go with a Holley, I'd suggest a 350 #7448 for your combo.

Adios, David

I'm neither saying the 2100 nor the 1.14 are pieces of junk as a whole, just the one that i had. lol
I bought it rebuilt from an online seller. I took it apart when I got it to make sure that it was indeed rebuilt and not just cleaned up on the outside. It looked like the company did a thorough job on it, but since the day I installed it I just couldn't get it to run right. As time went on, it started to get worse. So, I rebuilt it. It didn't fix the problem (whatever it was/is). So, I installed the very same holley that you recommended, tuned it a bit, and my car has literally never run better. I'm thinking that it has to be something wrong internally with the carb. I've tried playing with the float and got minuscule results from that. I have NO vac leaks, no problems with over heating (even with AC), timing is set at 12*, cam advanced 2*
As soon as I can figure out exactly what is wrong with the autolite and fix it, it will probably go back on, or I will save it for something else. I was thinking about using it when I try my hand at going boosted...

I've had the same experience with a few Carter YFs on my rebuilt engine. They run OK, but I can't get them to idle correctly. I finally drilled out the idle jet on one and it almost idles properly. I personally think its some design issues that a hobbyist like me will never figure out. I think you did the right thing with just going with another carb altogether. I'm at that same point too in my rebuild journey.

yeah... i really want to get my 2100 fixed though. my car runs so nice with the holley on there, and since people say the carbs with annular discharge are better, i really want to be able to make the comparison for myself

8) i personally would stay away from the 500cfm holley carbs. stick with the smaller one. another option would be a 1.08 2100 from something like a granada with the 302.

yeah, im using a 350cfm holley at the moment while trying to get my autolite fixed then i will switch back and see which i like more
