Carb linkage for a Fox body Mustang

I am starting a carb conversion on my 1980 Fox body Mustang automatic.
I am installing a Weber 38 with Clifford adapter.
The Weber fits, although I need shorter mounting bolts.
Have any Fox body owners done this conversion, and if so how did you adapt the cable throttle linkage to the sideways mounted carb.
Also, the automatic tranny kickdown, any thoughts on that??
Any and all advice, or links to advice, would be appreciated.
The Falcon book helps somewhat, but there is nothing like advice from someone who has been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
Thanks.
Max.

I don't that anyone has put a carb with the linkage in line with the log on a fox-body.
We have our cables come across the valve cover, so I think most guys have used the H/W5200 or the Autolite 2100, which have the linkage properly aligned across the engine.
I don't know if that carb is going to work for you. :(

There is a solution, but its logistically a little to hard to solve in the US. I don't have any pictures of it, but it is the solution.

It is the cable operated 2-bbl 38 DGAS/Solex 34 linkage used on the 1974-1984 European Ford Capri/Cortina/Granada/Seirra/Scorpio V6.

It's hidden in a space about 1/2" thick, between the distributor and the back of the Solex or 38 or 40 mm Weber carb.

It supports the C3 or C4 kickdown, and is very well organised, a brilliant linkage which I've used on my old Cologne V6 Ford.

It fits the stock US Pinto/Capri/Mustag II/III 2300 and 2800 linkage, and a later C3 or C4 automatic trans with the cable kickdown.

Wow, advice from Winnipeg Canada to New Zealand. Thanks guys.
I had a German V6 78 Capri, great car, wish I had kept it.
Apparently Clifford makes a linkage adapter kit for the carb linkage, and recommend a pressure regulator as well.
I will check these out.
They did not comment on the kick down. I guess worst case I have to shift down manually when needed.
I checked the Classic Inline 6 site but didn't see any linkages at all.
I have a 32/36 on my old BMW, so I guess I could put that on the Mustang, and put the 38 on the BMW. Not my preferred choice but I will see how things go.
Any more advice is always appreciated.

Hey, thanks for this.
Larry at Clifford says they have a carb linkage kit that should work, and a local parts shop says to go with a longer cable and rig up the right angle turn that he cable has to make to the carb.
So between a carb linkage and kickdown cable I might actually get this done.
Much appreciated.

I made a bracket and mounted it to my valvecover then I used a throttle cable from a 86 ford ranger. It works pretty good, down the road I'll probably go to something nicer but I've got some other stuff on my list I'd like to do first.

I am getting the linkage kit from Clifford, and will let folks know how that works. The idea of a bracket to reroute a longer cable to the carb sounds like the way to go. Between that and the Clifford kit I should be able rig something up. Stay tuned.
