Carb question?

I've searched and been unable to find the answer, or at least I didn't understand it..

I am using a '66 or '67 head on my 200. I have an Autolite 1100 that needs rebuilding, but I'm thinking of doing a slight upgrade. The motor is stock, although I will go with headers and have already done the duraspark II, so I think I'll stick with a 1bbl for now.

The question is which carbs will fit the opening on the '67 head?

carter yf? holley 1946? carter rbs? or a different one altogether??

I know that the heads go from early 1.5" to later a 1.75" opening, but haven't been able to find which carbs fit which size.

Any help would be appreciated..

Sorry, if it matters, the car is a '66 mustang with a 200 and a 3.03 3-speed.

Howdy back ThingII

The important issue here is that you chose a carb that is later than '67 so it will not have a Spark Control Valve- to be compatible with your DS II upgrade.

If you wish to use your stock air cleaner, fuel lines and linkage then I'd be looking for an Autolite 1101 from a '69 Mustang with a 250. It will look very similar to your stock carb, but win NOT have a SCV and will flow slightly more CFM- 185 cfm on your stock 1100 to 215 cfm on an 1101.

The carb mounting stud distance will be the same as your stock '66, but you will have to taper/flair/bevel out the carb adapter so that the larger butterfly and throttle bore will clear. It can be done with a hand file or a Dremel.

The Carter YFs became the line standard in 1970, the Holley 1946 in the 80's. All but the very earliest YFs will have the larger throttle bore. They will also require linkage adaptation or conversion to a throttle cable. They are good carbs, none with a SCV, but all with various short comings.

With the carb and ignition upgrades, you'll be looking to improve your exhaust system soon.

Adios, David
