Carb question

I have a ford 6 in a M29C weasel tracked vehicle. I checked the block number and it is from a 1975 Granada. I pulled the carb and it is a Carter YF 6050S. Would a YF6057S work on this motor? What other carbs would be compatable. I'm not very concerned about economy as much as better preformance.

Is that a Thiokol? I remember some models used a Ford I6 and some used the German Ford V4. It has been since the late 70s that I have had to work on any of these type vehicles, and I don't remember if I have any literature still around or not.

No its not in a thiokol, but very simular. Weasels were a military all terian tracked cargo carrier built by Studebaker during WW2. After WW2 my weasel was given to the Norwiegan army. It was sold as surplus and returned to the US in the erly 80's. These weasels were bought by private individuals as snow mobile trail groomers, ski hills ect. It was very common to replace worn motors for the ford strait 6 for the extra power and parts availibility. I use mine to get in and out of my hunting camp in winter and playing in the snow.

Getting back to my question, I have a Carter YF6050S that needs rebuilding badly, I can get a rebuilt Carter YF6057S very cheep. Will it work? Is there a better carb without changing the manifold?

By the way, I'm buying a 1963 Thiokol 601 and the motors is a 223 ford.

I can't be of any help with specific carbs as to their adaptability. You may just have to take a gamble on whether it will work and give it a try. I know I don't have any info about Military versions of this type vehicle, and it will be a couple days till I can go through all my old lit to see if I have anything on Thiokol 601. The 223 started out as a 215 in 1952 or 54 or thereabouts and was used thru 64 in the F series. I have one in my 1962 F100. Go to the Vintage area for discussion about this. The carb in question is not from the thiokol, its from the weasel which has a 1975 granada motor. It is not a military motor.

You might try to Search for a Carter YF website that might give you some specs and you would just have to make a judgement call as to whether one would replace the other.
