Carb Rebuild

OK folks I need a little advice or reassurance. Tomorrow I plan to pick up the carb kit (Autolite 1100) for my car. I honestly don't know what all is in the kit but I have to replace the gaskets because my carb is leaking gas and truthfully that concerns me. How big a deal is this? I don't plan on messing with any of the settings, only replacing gaskets. Sounds simple but I don't want to pull a cover and have springs and such shoot out all over the place. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks.

Open up the rebuild kit box, remove the instructions & STUDY the exploded view. This is the best info you can usually get. These carbs are pretty simple(compared to a Quadrajet or a Dualjet), so go slow & be thorough.
Also, clean off your workbench, lay out some clean rags & be prepared to only do this project until done. The rags keep small parts from rolling away.....

Rex,
can you tell where the gas is coming from?
I just stopped my autolite leaks this week. Mine was leaking from the fuel filter fitting and around the top gasket. I bought a rebuild kit and some teflon tape. I did not take the carb off the car, I just removed the top of the carb and replaced the top gasket and resealed the filter fittings. that stopped the leaks.
If you do pull the whole carb out, the lower half has several small parts that can fall/roll out, so take heed and study the diagram so you will know where they all go.

while we´re at it:

don´t go crazy with the bolts when bolting the air horn back on.
Just like valve covers and oil plugs - when applying too much force, there is a certain risk of warping the flange, rendering all sealing efforts impossible.

Contrary to warped valve vovers, a warped air horn is almost impossible to be straightened out again.

Yes like said before, clean workbench, clean rags and of course...some good ol'fashioned carb clean. Compressed air also comes quite in handy. Just study the diagram and be carfull. Dont be afraid to take it apart, they can look complicated by really there simple as all get out. The hardest part for me is the darn linkages  ...pay attention to those. Good luck and most importantly have fun. :D
