should i use some type of sealant between the carb and intake to prevent leaking? (besides the gasket) if so what?

thanks

additional sealer is not recommended on carb and/ or spacer gaskets.
The gasket material is already impregnated and has very little in common with regular paper or cardboard.

spraying a liberal dose of WD40 on the gasket is OK to ensure the gasket material will come off in one piece in the future. Some folks from the MG crowd recommend a very thin coat of high temperature grease.

in case you run into sealing problems, check the mating surfaces for straightness. carb flanges can be straightened out by hand with a large sheet of glass and 800-1000grit wet sanding paper.

I have never used anything on them and reuse them multiple times. You might want to put some lock washers on your bolts....its a dickens lookin for a carb problem just to find out the bolts/nuts were loose!
