carburetor identification

The carb had a few variations. Here's the stock 1978 version from a Fairmont, same as the poster's:

The one on the Albert Penello page doesn't look like a '46. Maybe a Carter?

So what do you know about them? Should I stick with it or ditch it. Does it have the scv valve required for the load-o-matic?

That one and your's do not have the svc valve. I will send you my points dizzy and you can use it with either of the carbs you have.

It's a good carb for a DS2 system, excellent drive-ability if tuned properly. It just won't have the top-end power of something larger. Put caps on the ports you don't need.
Works well with EGR, if that's important to you.

How the heck has my truck been running if it doesn't have the scv valve the LOM requires? Can't wait to try the new distro and see how it's supposed to run.
