Casting Numbers (AGAIN)

I'm alittle confused.

The link below shows a picture of my intake "log" with a visible casting number on it. What's confusing to me is on Dougs' website he has the same number listed for a 200 and 250. I'm pretty sure my head is a 200 (can't really see more than 3 bolts for the water pump) but did Ford use a "standard" head for both after a certain year?

Yes they did. I believe it was "around" the mid 70's. Someone will definaltely come in and tell as i do not know for sure..

I thought that "C9DE - M" was the only 250 specific head..... I dunno, ask the Schjedahl Bro's

D7 is a 1977 head and I know that by that time the 200's and 250's used the same head.

I looked through my stuff and my copy of the FSPH and as close as I can tell after 1969 they were all the same....like John said

Part numbers look the same...

Yup, as far as we can tell all heads from the 1969 (D9) "M" head to the E3 heads are the same for 200 and 250's.

Your casting number is D7BE 6090 AB. The D7 means 1977. B means first used in Falcons; "E" means an engine part; 6090 means it is a head; and nobody has adequately figured out the engineering codes (AB), other than for the 1969 "M" head as compared to the "C", "F", "J", and "K" heads.

Your head SHOULD have 1.76 intakes and a 62cc combustion chamber.

Just a FYI, The last letter of the part number is the "revision" number.(supposedly)

1963-65 C3DE-6090-D C5DE-6090-A
1966-67 C6DE-6090-B C7DE-6090-A
1968-69 C8DE-6090-B C9DE-6090-C,D,J,L,R
1969-74 C9DE-6090-M D3DE-6090-A*
1975-76 D5DE-6090-BA
1977-79 D7BE-6090-AB D8BE-6090-BA
1980-83 E0BE-6090-BB E1BE-6090-CC

So like on the first row of part numbers the C3DE-6090-D would mean that the head has been revised (D) 4 times being D is the 4th letter in the alphabet.

When they ran out of letters they started over with 2 letters BA, AB, etc....So when they did that, you know it has been rezvized a bunch of times.

I've got 2 pages full of different Ford part numbers and applications that I'm going to put up. Just have'nt had a chance yet...

Okay so we've determined the head is from a '77 Falcon (orginally) and it's a 200/250 head (no distinction).

But my blocks' number is C8DE-6015-B (I think, hard to really tell). If this is right then it would be a '68 200 from a ? As far as I know it was never rebuilt, just robbed from a donor and put into my Mustang.

I also milled the head a bit to raise my compression ratio. When I restored it back to it's original condition it was terribly low (8:1 I believe). Now it's somewhere around 9:1 (last I checked). Did I screw up in doing this? I mean if the cyclinder heads measured about 62cc I then shorted that when I milled the head (took off .040" if I recall correctly).

HELLO EVERYONE!!!

THIS IS MY TWO CENTS WORTH....?

I HAVE A 1974 200 CU.IN. OUT OF A MAV. IN 1979 I WENT TO FORD TO FINED THE BEST HEAD FOR THE 200. THE PARTS MAN SAID THEY MADE TWO HEADS IN EARLY '70'S. A DODE-6090-A ( A I70-SMALL CHAMBER) AND A DODE-6090-M ( 200-LARGER CHAMBER). LATER '73 AND UP NO 170 HEAD BUT ONE HEAD WITH A D4DE-6090-AB. FORD MAN SAID THE AB WAS FOR THE FACT THAT THE HEAD FIT TWO MOTORS. THE SMALL AND LARGE IN THE SAME FAMILY. THAT WOULD BE A 200 CU.IN. AND A 250 CU.IN. IT SOUNDED OKAY AT THE TIME AND THAT HAS BEEN WHAT I'VE GONE BY FOR ALL THIS TOME....!!!???!!! WHO KNOWS???

HOPE THIS WILL HELP WHEN LOOKING FOR A HEAD AT YOUR LOCAL SALVAGE YARD OR RECYCLE CENTER...HA,HA,.

That should be out of a 68 Falcon according to my info. (C8DE)

Milling the head is perfectly fine to raise compression...8.1 is way to low unless you are going to run a turbo on it

9.1-9.6-1 is a lot better.
