This relates to all small sixes

Hi, I have a 1961 Ford Falcon Futura with a straight six. I think it may be a 170, but it is not the original engine. I know on a SBF the casting numbers to identify are located underneath the starter area...I assume the same holds true for the 144/170/200 engine. My block has casting numbers on the drivers side, which indicate a 1963 Ford Falcon block. Additionally I have 3 freeze plugs (that I can see anyway), but I understand that some early 200ci motors also had 3 freeze plugs and 4 main bearings. If the casting n umbers are under the starter, why would the same casting numbers be on the driver side of the block? My drivers side casting numbers are: C3DE-6015 E. Thanks...great looking site! BTW, the cylinder head has a casting number of C6DE-6090-B.

According to the charts in the Falcon Six Cylinder Performance Handbook, that head is from a 1966 -68 Falcon or Comet with a 170 cid, or a 1966 Falcon ,Comet, Fairlane or Mustang with a 200 cid engine. Manifold has 1.5" diameter bore.
The block numbers could be for a 1963 Falcon or Comet 170 cid, or a Fairlane 200 cid / 4 main bearing 200 cid.
That is a very odd location for casting numbers. Casting numbers are typically on the right side below the exhaust manifold and forward of the starter.
Welcome to the site. It might be helpful if you put a general location in your profile---you might have a Falcon Six enthusiast in your backyard.

I think you are like the third person to tell me my casting numbers are in an odd location. I take it they are supposed to be on the passenger side in the location you mentioned. Now I'm really curious to get this figured out. I'll try to get some pictures today, then figure out how to post them. Thank you for the information you provided!
