clifford is a big outfit right? i've been waiting 2 weeks for my carb adapter. i called them yesterday and "dave" told me they were still not getting the gaskets for the adapter in. (thats why they havent sent my adapter) he went into this story about how they sold out and had to send blueprints for these gaskets to the guy that makes their gaskets. the ones he just sent are wrong and now they have to get him to make changes and blah, blah, blah! im thinking 2 things....one: this is about a nickel holding up a dollar. two: who is this incompetent guy making gaskets in his shed at night when he gets off work....ted kazinski? who puts their buisness reputation on the line with a single supplier who is totally a fly by night outfit? ive got gasket from stovebolt with the carb. the only other gasket there should be is the one thats going between the adapter and intake log....am i right? cant this one be made with a sheet of generic gasket material in about 15 minutes? somebody tell me if i should wait for the gaskets from clifford or is this truly NOT worth waiting for?

hell why not just buy a gasket for $.90? if it takes you 15 mins to even make one that is taking too long.....sounds like they are draggin their feet for a reason....

When I bought my single out header from Cliffy in '98 they told me 6-8 weeks for delivery. I called them at the end of week 8, and all I got was "maybe another two weeks". Called back 2 weeks and got the sob story about waiting for "more" orders so their supplier would fab them up. Thier supplier required a minimum quantity to fab up the headers. Called abck in another 2 weeks and got the same sob story. I think it took 14 weeks to get the thing to my door step.

Cliffy seems to be a slave to their suppliers, or refuse to stock all parts or maybe they are a middle man at best. Cliffy will tell you their standard "shipping time" at time of order, but then you wait until thier suppliers makes up his/her mind to make whatever you ordered.

I'm old enough to "never say never", but I will have to be very desparate to do "bid-ness" with them again. Many on this forum have learned the same lesson I have.

I made my own carb gaskets a little thicker than normal to help reduce heat to my carb. The material was about 1/8' thick. It took some work and the grinding wheel to get it to look good. But it works 4.0.

What I wish I'd known before I started was that the material had asbestos in it. oops.

It was not labeled on it, and it was some old stuff we had laying around on a shelf in an engineering lab/shop.

cheers,
Steve-O

well i told them to send it anyway, got it today. the gasket was wrong, but all i had to do is take a 45 caliber casing and punch new holes to make it work. then the nuts they sent with the carb studs were wrong also! they packed 4 course threaded nuts, the course thread end goes into the adapter, the bolts needed to be fine threaded to hold the carb down. whoever packs their stuff must be in training. i called and raised hell again. they are going to sent the correct stuff along with a t-shirt. i wish they would sent me an airflow research shirt, or maybe mallory, or holley. i dont know if i wanna advertise clifford. the salesman was sympathetic but i didnt care for being put on hold long distance while he tried to figure out the problem. im really dissapointed with my first deal with them and not looking forward to ordering my header. hopefully thats the last thing i'll need from them. you know jegs did me wrong once and has lost thousands in buisness from me over the past 10 years. i think since clifford has a monopoly they just do what they want.

I'd only use that shirt to wipe the oil off my dip stick, or worse  !

The first time I used mail order for parts was from Kanter for my Pontiac. They totally screwed up that order; it got so bad that when I called I used to ask for "Chris in Customer Dis-service". They TOO lost thousands of dollars of my business. Too bad for them.

Is Clifford the ONLY supplier for the carb adaptor? I am wanting to cmplete the carb swap and Dizzy swap over the long weekend and need to have the parts on hand.
any ideas? or should I just try my luck with clifford?
thanks

well with a little more searching around the site here, I was able to answer my own questions
Not sure just how Big an Operation TOM has at Stovebolt, but I get the feeling its just him and the wife? Anyway, everyone here seems to have only good things to say about them, and less than perfect marks for clifford performance. So I will be placing my order with them, I am getting the Holley 5200 with adapter. I will plan to use my PVC adapter and purchase a low profile airfilter, Now with this set up how much fabrication can I expect?
just linkage? or is there more?
thanks.

clifford's customer service sucks. i ordered a 6 into 2 header from them and it took 2 months...i payed for 1 week delivery. good parts, yet overpriced, and crappy service.

8) Clifford and Fordsix are asking WAY too much for six cylinder headers. Contact Summit and they will sell you a set for just over $150.00.
