Convince me not to go solid...

Motor mounts, that is. I just pulled the engine out of my ranchero after installing it in october or so. It has about 1000 miles on the install.

The BRAND NEW when installed espo Motor mounts were completely disentigrated when I took it out. Complete peices of crap.

I am going to be very hard pressed to justify purchasing another set of crap motor mounts, and instead am leaning very heavily on just making some solid mounts.

Can anyone tell me a good reason not to ?

Thanks.

vibration, bolts loosening up. teeth chatteriing. broken transmission cases, not reccomended for the street. get good quality mounts, such as corteco

Ian:

Mike has the Corteco mounts $15 each side. You are at least the third person lately that has had this problem. This is weird since I have purchased mounts for years and never had this problem. I guess it is an overseass piece of crap problem which does not surprise me. I am to the point now where if I see it made in Far East Land, I will not buy it.

I might have to go with Mike's then. On the far east thing - plenty of crappy stuff is made in the USA too. It's not the place of manufacture that causes crap to be produced - it's the target consumer. As long as we keep shopping at walmart and all we care about is saving a couple of dollars today, companies are going to keep driving to get prices lower. As a result, quality suffers.

American Society is very much focused on the present and instant gratification, and as a result - we arent willing to pay the slightly higher price for a product that has the quality to last beyond the immediate horizon.

if youre still worried about your mounts breaking, take out the pin and replace it with a 1/2" bolt and a locknut - thats what i had to do when a brand new mount broke the pin on the second day in the truck  purchased it at carquest, i believe it was made in india but im not sure. and it was replacing the one that fully broke in half and was only about a year old - i have a dent in my leg and a dent in my oilpan from that one
i think i'll start taking don's stand on things

That's a great suggestion - if I had a truck. :)

Falcon mounts are a little different.

I've had over 8 years of service from my Oriellys motor mounts on my 1960.
I think whats really been hard on mine has to be the weight of the engine twisting on them while haveing the tranny out so many times.

Other wise Go solid up front just dont go solid on the engine and the tranny, It would make the bell housing crack IMO.
