HI ALL
Other than the head being different (biger valves, and log). are the blocks the same Bore, storke, hp and such in a 64-200 and a 78-200 or is one better than the other because of modernizenation? I have called 8 yards this morning and none have a 200 motor. so I may have to use the 64 200 block I have for my Comet upgrade.
thanks
Tim

i'm not sure when they started making the 7-main blocks standard, but your 64 block might not be one (5? 4 main? i can never remember...)
other than that, the blocks should be the same

and if i remember correctly, the cranks between them don't interchange

OK
The the 5 or 4 main block would be OK for a daily driver, non mod other than maybe a 78 head and header or non high performance motor.
Thanks

you could still build up the 4 main block as a very good performer and not have it blow up
but if you're going to build up a 200 as a turbo block, or some other super performer, then you're going to want to go with the 7 main

Before 1966, the blocks had the small bell pattern (8.5"). In 1966 they switched to a dual pattern (8.5" and 9"). Get a dual pattern block, unless you want to get very creative with pressure plates (almost unobtainium) and clutches.

I hadden't thought about the PP and clutch. That was slipping befor the motor went.. I had read the the M Benz 2.3 clutch works and well as a alefa. how about maybe one from a pinto...

I know the 215mm Alfa pressure plate works great with a .15" skim of the stepped flywheel mounting surface (been using one for a while now), but given the choice of starting fresh, I'd go with a 66+ block and avoid the whole issue entirely.
