Got an 82 fairmont with the 200 six that was driving me crazy !!!
First. I find that the cam lobes are flattened, so I put in a new cam and lifters. While doing this I noticed the charcoal canister on the exhaust pipe, took alook at it abnd BOY was it plugged.
Reassembled the engine and BAM, its up and running.
But I kept getting a miss and popping under load. HMMMMMMM.
Checked carb settings, timing,replaced cap & rotor,new wires,Etc...
THEN it occurs to me to check the new autolite plugs I put in.
Black and sooty. Regapped from .050 to .035 and it was better but still there. Called the local Autozone and let the salesman talk me into a set of Bosch Platinum 6200 series plugs.
Boy, Do I feel stupid !!!
It's like having a brand new engine.
Moral of this story - START SIMPLE.
P.S. can anyone recommend a Hotter coil to go with my Duraspark ignition?
