HI ALL
Now I've got ford performance in my truck so I got my perfromance rig.. So I'm think I want to keep the 61 Comet stock  But I want a little more poop out of it and steal want econo out of it as well .This is my choices
It has the stock 170 in it now, I was giving a 64 1/2 200. NOW
Do rebuild the 200 and drop it in.
Or rebuild the 170 just mill and use the 200 head or get a 70 mav. 170 head for it. :?: So many choises.. so little brain..
Thanks
Tim

I don't believe there is any advantage to using the 64 200 head instead of the 170 head. IIRC, and without checking my tech sources to verify, they are the same.

I agree with Phil. Keep the stock 170 and rebuild for low-end torque. For economy you don’t want the high airflow but you need to keep the air velocities up for good mixing and atomization.

As far as the rebuild, all of the other techniques used during a hipo rebuild still apply. Good compression (HP), deck height (quench), dizzy II (accurate timing) ect.

Good luck and have fun, Ric.

Ok
What was the stock motor color for the 61 170 So when I do it I can color it right. and was the Valve cover, air cleaner and pan a different color than the motor. Pic's will help as well. The cars orginal color was mint frost, and I plan on repainting it that color or close.
Thanks
Tim

Here's the factory color for a 61 Falcon (this is my 62 which is the same color combo):

I used non-original parts, so it isn't all the same, but other than the thermostat housing, the colors are correct as applied.

HA RIC
You say for econo keep the air flow down, so do you mean keep the stock head and 1b or can I go with a 70 mav 170 head upgrade ( I may be getting away from stock here) and check Quinch? I was planning on the dizzyII up grade (78 fairmont).
Thanks
Tim
