Did I buy an Autolite 1100 or 1101?

Gents, I just received a nice Autolite I purchased off of Ebay. It was listed as an 1100 from a 63 Galaxie 223ci with manual trans and choke. It still has the tag which reads "C3AF A A 2JB". The base is also stamped "C3AF A". The throttle bore is 1.563 (1 9/16"). My questions are:
- what is the cfm rating of this carb?
- is there any reason I could not use it on a 200ci engine I'm building for my 62 Falcon?
- could this be a 1101 instead of an 1100?

Thanks!

I am certainly not an expert on this carburetor but it looks like you have a 63 with the smaller bore which make it an 1100. I don't think they made the 1101 until the late 60s. Someone please chime in and correct me if I am mistaken.

Kenny.

Howdy Cliff:

The "C3AF A" stamp is from a 1963 car with a 223 six engine. It is a 1101. Used on the 223 sixes in '63 & 64. It should have a throttle bore of 1 11/16" (1.69"). It is rated at 210 cfm compared to 185 cfm on a 200 1100. It has a SCV vacuum signal compatible with a Load-O-Matic distributor. Check the diameter of the throttle bore again.

The only adaptation to use on an early 200 is to slot the mounting holes as they are slightly wider than a 1100. And to flare the top of the carb hole to accommodate the larger butterfly throttle valve. Gas line, linkage, vacuum line and air cleaner are the same as a stock 1100 on '65 & '66 200s.

One of the very first mods I did many years ago was to adapt a '68 distributor and a '69 1101 (No SCV) to my stock '65 Ranchero. What a difference.

Adios, David

The carbs listed as Holley 1-bbl 1940 replacements are actually the parent 1100 and 1101 Autolite carbs. It is the great key to finding the right 1100 or 1101

A breakdown of 'what carb goes on what car' is below. Unlike 2-bbl Holley 350 and 500 cfm carbs, the Holley 1940 1-bbl had many subvariants, which shared the same part number, but a different FoMoCo Basic Part Number code anr revision number. That allowed one to find out what car, capacity and Autolite 1100 and 1101 carb series it came from.

It looks like there are a few different versions of the Holley 1940. Ron ( rjseibenick ) at Ford Six is a Tempo racer, and he's measured his 1940 as being a 1.352" venturi carb, although I'm sure that is not the stock venturi diameter for the #R 4529 144/170/200 replacements

If some versions have a larger venturi than the 1946, and the flow rate is 202 cfm as a 1945, and, according to Ron at Ford Six, a 212 cfm rating as a 1940 with a 1.352" venturi.

Be aware that there are 26 historic Part Number listings of the Holley 1940.Some are generic, non Ford Std parts, others are full Autolite/Motorcraft listings with a Ford basic part number (BPN) with a letter suffix, and with that tag, you can find with 100% certainty that are carb is a big or little item.

I'll bet the 212 CFM ratings with the 1.352" venturi on 250, 240, 300 and older I block 223 and 262's won't be the same as the generic 144/170/200 item.

It is a big 223/262/240/250 or 300 carb if its PN coded:
R 4454-AAS
R 4468 AAS
R 4509 AAS
R 4520 AAS, additional BPN plate suffix A

It's the little 144/170/200 stand in item if its PN coded as one of the following:-
